ST JOHN SOUTH AFRICA PARTNERS WITH LAMBANO CHILDRENS SANCTUARY
In line with our slogan ‘caring for people’ and our motto ‘In the service of humanity’, St John – South Africa has partnered with Lambano Children’s’ Sanctuary in the construction of South Africa’s first sub-acute and palliative care facility for children.
The facility will be based in Langermann Drive, Kensington, Johannesburg and will provide a caring and supportive haven for children with life-limiting diseases. In addition, immediate family members and guardians will receive specific training in the form of Home Based Care and First Aid to further support their critically ill child. In addition to providing training expertise, St John will also be setting up an ambulance control room and will provide dedicated patient transfer vehicles.
This 24-bed, state of the art sanctuary will accommodate children up to the age of 17 and will be staffed by suitably qualified and experienced healthcare professionals including nurses and doctors who currently provide medical expertise and support to Lambano at their current facilities in Malvern, Johannesburg.
Construction is scheduled to begin in the coming wintery days at the new site which was provided as a result of generous funding from the Government of Luxemburg and the Roy McAlpine Trust.
It is envisaged that the facility will be operational by July 2020 and ready to receive its first young patient.
This project would not be possible without the invaluable support of the local Kensington Community and Municipality, the Heritage Council and numerous other stakeholders.
